The 2023 presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Adewole Adebayo, has rejected any proposed coalition with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), stating that the party will not compromise its principles.
Speaking during a current affairs programme on Eagle 102.5 FM in Ogun State, Adebayo revealed that some prominent figures within the ADC had approached the SDP for a possible alliance ahead of future elections.
He, however, maintained that the SDP remains committed to ethical leadership and accountability, stressing that it would not accommodate individuals with questionable records.
According to him, the party was founded to offer Nigerians a credible alternative, not to serve as a platform for what he described as the recycling of politicians.
Adebayo emphasised that integrity, competence, and commitment to public welfare remain central to the SDP’s vision, noting that political popularity should not override the need for responsible leadership.
He also acknowledged claims of interference by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in opposition parties but warned that such challenges must not distract the SDP from its core mission.
The former presidential candidate said the party is focused on addressing key national issues, including insecurity, unemployment, healthcare challenges, and economic hardship.
Reflecting on his recent visit to Plateau State, Adebayo criticised what he described as distant leadership, stressing the importance of direct engagement with affected communities during crises.
He concluded by reaffirming the SDP’s commitment to building a political platform driven by transparency, accountability, and measurable results, insisting that only individuals with proven integrity will be considered for leadership roles within the party.
