The Nigeria Police Force has removed Assistant Commissioner of Police Benjamin Hundeyin as the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) in a leadership shake-up at the Force Headquarters.
Police sources said Hundeyin has been replaced by Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Okon Placid, who will now serve as the new spokesperson of the force.
According to the sources, an official announcement confirming the appointment is expected soon.
As part of the restructuring, the police leadership also created a new unit known as the New Media Office to strengthen the forceās digital communication and online engagement.
Chief Superintendent of Police Ali Giwa has been appointed to head the newly established unit.
The changes are part of ongoing reforms within the police aimed at improving communication, media relations and public engagement.
Earlier reports indicated that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, had not immediately named a substantive Force Public Relations Officer following Hundeyinās removal.
Hundeyinās exit comes barely six months after he assumed the role of the force spokesperson in September 2025.
His removal is believed to be part of broader leadership adjustments within the police hierarchy following Disuās appointment as the 23rd Inspector-General of Police by President Bola Tinubu.
Before becoming the Force Public Relations Officer, Hundeyin served as spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command.
