A middle-aged man, Chukwunenye Nweke, has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to order a full-scale investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of his mother, which he claims was caused by alleged unprofessional conduct of police officers during a raid in Anambra State.
Nweke made the call in a personally signed statement titled “Re: Response to controversies surrounding alleged Police statement papers dated 22nd March 2013,” where he accused officers attached to Zone 13 Police Headquarters, Ukpo, of storming his family residence on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
According to him, the officers allegedly acted on the sponsorship of one Dr. Mrs. Aguiyi Anulli and others, in an attempt to arrest him over claims bordering on attempted kidnapping, cyberbullying, and stalking—allegations he described as false, fabricated, misleading, and defamatory.
He stated that during the operation, the officers forcefully entered his mother’s private room in search of court documents, an action he said left his hypertensive mother severely traumatized.
Nweke explained that his mother was rushed to the hospital the same day following the incident and later died on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the Government Hospital, Amanunke.
Addressing ChroniclesReporters in Awka, Nweke denied ever being a fugitive, insisting that documents allegedly portraying him as such in 2013 were fraudulent and should be disregarded by the public.
He challenged any police officer or individual with contrary claims to produce a Certified True Copy of the comprehensive Police Investigation Report from the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Awka, to substantiate such allegations.
Nweke further warned that any police officer who relies on what he described as false and defamatory documents to indict him must be prepared to provide credible evidence or face legal consequences.
He added that legal practitioners who institute charges based on such documents risk being reported to the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee (LPDC) for professional misconduct, including malicious prosecution.
The statement, he said, was issued in the interest of truth, justice, and the protection of his reputation, while urging authorities to ensure accountability in the matter.
