A fresh administrative crisis erupted inside the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Gwagwalada branch, on Thursday as union leadership stormed the office of retired Head of Administration, Andrew Gad, forcing him to vacate the premises after he allegedly refused to step down despite his official retirement.

The incident, which has stirred tension within the Gwagwalada Area Council, followed growing complaints from workers who accused the retired official of continuing to function as Head of Administration weeks after his disengagement from service.

According to a Facebook post by Muhammed Isah Hassan, the union leadership took decisive action after confirming that Mr. Gad had allegedly continued endorsing official files, issuing directives, and acting in administrative capacity despite no longer being recognized by the Area Council Service Commission.

Sources within the council revealed that the development created confusion among staff, with multiple directives allegedly emerging from unofficial channels, thereby undermining administrative order and institutional authority.

Union officials reportedly insisted that Mr. Gad immediately pack his personal belongings and vacate the office, stressing that any document, memo, or correspondence originating from him would no longer be considered valid within the council structure.

The confrontation reportedly drew attention from workers and administrative staff, many of whom gathered around the office premises as union leaders enforced what they described as “respect for due process and institutional discipline.”

Insiders further disclosed that Mr. Gad’s continued presence in the council may not be unconnected to the alleged influence of Abu Giri, who is reportedly still relying on the retired administrator to handle sensitive assignments and administrative matters.

This allegation has further deepened concerns among workers who fear that unofficial control of administrative operations could destabilize governance within the council.

Union leaders maintained that allowing a retired officer to continue acting in official capacity would create dangerous precedents, weaken administrative accountability, and encourage manipulation of council processes.

“We cannot allow a retired officer to continue running the system from the backdoor,” a union source said. “The structure must be respected, and authority must follow due process.”

The union also warned that any attempt to undermine the administrative hierarchy of the council would be resisted, emphasizing that the integrity of the local government system must be protected.

The incident has sparked discussions across Gwagwalada, with observers describing the development as a clear indication of internal power tussle and administrative restructuring within the council.

As of press time, neither Mr. Andrew Gad nor Mr. Abu Giri had issued an official response to the allegations.

However, workers within the council say the decisive action by NULGE signals a new stance against administrative irregularities and unofficial influence within the Gwagwalada Area Council.

The unfolding situation is expected to trigger further developments as stakeholders monitor the aftermath of what many have described as one of the most dramatic administrative confrontations in recent times within Gwagwalada.

Chronicles Reporters is closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more details emerge.
