Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of favoring states governed by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the disbursement of ₦500 billion federal intervention funds. Speaking in an interview with Radio DW Hausa, Lawal said Zamfara, the only North West state not under APC, has yet to receive any of the federal support since his administration began in 2023.
Lawal claimed he has credible information that some APC-led states have received billions in intervention funds while Zamfara has been excluded, suggesting the disparity stems from his affiliation with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). “The Federal Government has never allocated any intervention funds to Zamfara State, unlike other states. I believe this is because I am not part of their party,” he said.
Despite the alleged exclusion, Lawal stated that his government continues to implement projects across Zamfara using only statutory allocations. He highlighted that the state has not borrowed new funds during his tenure, relying solely on internally generated revenue and allocations, although ₦1.2 billion is deducted monthly to settle debts from the previous administration.
Lawal also addressed speculation about a possible defection from the PDP, insisting that power is divinely ordained and that he has no plans to abandon his party despite internal challenges. He said any decision regarding defection would involve consultations with his supporters.
He concluded by stressing that if the PDP resolves its internal issues, there would be no reason for him to seek alternatives, reaffirming his commitment to the party and the people of Zamfara.
