Barely hours after reports of an attack on a campaign convoy in Ibwa Ward, another disturbing incident has been recorded in Paiko Ward, Gwagwalada Area Council, escalating political tension ahead of the forthcoming council elections.

A residential building belonging to Ibn Ja’afar Paiko, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC) and a Gwagwalada Renewed Hope Ambassador, was allegedly set ablaze on Monday by suspected political thugs.

The allegation surfaced via a Facebook post by Itz Real Jafaru, who claimed that “PDP bandits/terrorists” were responsible for the attack on the APC stalwart’s residence. However, these claims remain unverified, and no official statement has been issued by security agencies as of the time of filing this report.

Images circulating online show extensive fire damage to the single-storey building. The roof appears partially burnt, while household items—including furniture, kitchen utensils, and personal belongings—were reportedly destroyed. Neighbours were seen inspecting the damage in the aftermath of the incident.

Hon. Paiko is a notable political figure in Paiko Ward. He previously served as the running mate to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chairmanship candidate, Kasim Mohammed Ikwa, during the 2022 Gwagwalada Area Council elections, before later aligning with the APC.

The incident adds to a string of politically linked disturbances in Gwagwalada Area Council, raising concerns among residents about rising hostilities as the elections draw near. Community members have urged political leaders and supporters across party lines to exercise restraint and uphold peace.

As at press time, there were no confirmed reports of casualties resulting from the fire. Security authorities are yet to issue an official response, while attempts to obtain comments from representatives of the PDP were unsuccessful.

Chronicles Reporters will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more information becomes available.
