The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has scheduled its national convention to hold in Abuja on March 28 and 29, 2026.
The decision was announced in a communiqué issued at the end of the party’s 105th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, held late Monday in Abuja.

Reading the communiqué, the party’s spokesman, Haruna Mohammed, said the meeting was convened under the leadership of the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Caretaker Committee (NCC). The communiqué was jointly signed by Mohammed and the party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
According to the document, the NEC also approved the conduct of ward and local government congresses in February, while state congresses are scheduled for March.
The NEC directed the NCC, working with the National Organising Secretary and other relevant party organs, to issue detailed guidelines, notices and modalities for the congresses. It stressed that all activities must strictly comply with the PDP constitution, regulations of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), and existing judicial directives.
The committee further reaffirmed all resolutions reached at the party’s 104th emergency NEC meeting held on December 7, 2025, declaring them valid, binding and legally effective.
“All actions taken pursuant to the 104th NEC resolutions remain lawful and operative, having been carried out in strict compliance with the PDP Constitution, the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act and relevant judicial pronouncements,” the communiqué stated.
The NEC also welcomed the judgment of the Federal High Court in Ibadan, which upheld the legality of the party’s leadership structure and directed INEC to recognise the duly constituted caretaker committee.
It resolved that all party organs, members and stakeholders must continue to obey subsisting court judgments and judicial directives, urging INEC and other relevant institutions to fully comply with the ruling in the interest of democracy and constitutional order.
The NEC reaffirmed the legitimacy and authority of the Mohammed-led caretaker committee, with Anyanwu as Secretary, stressing that the NCC remains the only lawful national administrative organ of the party pending the conduct of the national convention.
In addition, the NEC approved the extension of the tenure of the national caretaker working committee, as well as affected state and zonal caretaker committees, until the completion of the national convention and related congresses.
The committee also mandated the NCC to immediately activate convention sub-committees and commence full logistical, administrative and consultative preparations to ensure what it described as a transparent, inclusive and credible convention.
The PDP called on party members, stakeholders and supporters across the country and in the diaspora to remain law-abiding, united and committed to the ideals of the party.
