Officers of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) on Thursday searched the residence of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, as part of an ongoing investigation.
The development was confirmed in a statement by Muyiwa Adekeye, media adviser to the former governor. El-Rufai’s lawyer, Ubong Akpan, described the search as unlawful, alleging that it violated his client’s fundamental rights.
The raid comes amid investigations into allegations that El-Rufai misappropriated public funds during his tenure as governor of Kaduna State.
Reports indicate that El-Rufai has been in ICPC custody since Wednesday night after he was released on administrative bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
As of the time of reporting, the ICPC had not issued a detailed public statement outlining the specific grounds for the search or additional charges related to the investigation.
