President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday appealed to Nigerians for forgiveness if he has wronged anyone, as he spoke at the opening of this year’s Tafsir at the State House Mosque in Abuja.
Addressing worshippers, the President noted the rare coincidence of Ramadan and Lent beginning on the same day, describing it as a powerful reminder of shared values between Christians and Muslims. He said both seasons emphasise sacrifice, discipline, prayer and self-denial, urging Nigerians to reflect on their common spiritual foundations.
“Ramadan coincides with Lent, reminding us of our common commitment to sacrifice, discipline, prayer and self-denial,” Tinubu said. “If I have sinned, forgive me as Nigerians.” He stressed that fasting should not be limited to abstaining from food but should also reflect kindness, forgiveness, compassion and love for humanity.
In a personally signed message to adherents of both faiths, the President called for peace, unity and stability across the country. He urged citizens to pray for progress and security, particularly in the fight against terrorism, banditry and other forms of insecurity.
Tinubu further encouraged Nigerians to live by the core teachings of their faiths, promote good neighbourliness and remain committed to service to God and humanity. He prayed that the lessons and blessings of Ramadan and Lent would strengthen the nation and foster greater harmony among its people.
