Oke-Ere community in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State has been thrown into fear after two individuals were reportedly abducted by armed bandits while working on a farm on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
According to a community source cited by local platform Egbe Mekun Parrot, the victims were ambushed and taken into the bush by the assailants. One of the abducted, identified as a Hausa farmer known locally as “Sarki,” and the other, an indigenous resident of Oke-Ere, are yet to be released.
Residents noted that the incident, though alarming, was not entirely unexpected. In recent days, there have been multiple reports of armed men moving along the Ogbe, Koro, and Oke-Ere forest routes, heightening fears of continued attacks in the area.
Community members have urged security agencies and the Kogi State Government to increase surveillance and protection in order to prevent further incidents.
This latest abduction is part of a worrying trend in Kogi State and surrounding regions, which have seen a spike in kidnapping activities. Just a day earlier, on Monday, a commercial Sienna bus was reportedly intercepted by bandits along the Ejule–Aloma Road in Ofu Local Government Area, with all passengers forcibly taken into the bush, according to SaharaReporters.
Commuters and residents traveling along these vulnerable routes are being advised to exercise caution and remain vigilant as insecurity continues to escalate.
