At least four residents of Gwargwaba village in Nahuce District, Bungudu Local Government Area, Zamfara State, were killed Thursday evening after armed bandits reportedly attacked the community. The assailants set several homes on fire, reportedly burning the victims alive.

The attack, which occurred around 6 p.m., also targeted food stores and livestock, leaving widespread destruction. Security alert platform Bakatsine confirmed the deaths and condemned the incident, noting the growing pattern of violence linked to extortion by armed groups in rural communities.

Reports indicate the raid followed the villagers’ refusal to pay illegal levies demanded by the bandits, a practice that has become increasingly common across Zamfara and other northwestern states.

Zamfara State remains a hotspot for banditry, despite ongoing military operations aimed at curbing attacks, mass kidnappings, killings, and the destruction of property in affected communities. Authorities continue to appeal for increased protection for vulnerable rural populations.
