Former Gwagwalada Area Council Chairman, HON. Adam Danze widely known as “Obama,” reportedly survived a shocking assassination attempt at his residence late last night in what insiders are describing as a coordinated and unusually bold operation.
According to a reliable source close to the family who spoke exclusively to Chronicles Reporters, the armed assailants gained entry into the compound with alarming ease despite the residence being located at the back of the Area Command Gwagwalada — a location expected to be one of the most secure zones within the council area.
Preliminary findings reveal that the attackers first subdued Obama’s two children, who are serving officers with the Nigeria Immigration Service. The assailants reportedly tied them up in the parlour before proceeding directly to the former chairman’s bedroom, suggesting they had specific information about the house layout and targeted individuals.
Inside the room, the attackers allegedly confronted Obama with two chilling options:
“Bring money, or we take you.”
When the former chairman insisted he had no cash available, one of the assailants armed with a knife attempted to stab him. According to the source, the other members of the group intervened, restraining the aggressive attacker. The men then seized two mobile devices valued at approximately ₦4 million, searched the room, and discovered additional cash hidden inside the wardrobe, which they took before demanding for more.
At this point, the former council chairman, reportedly exhausted and frustrated, told them: “If you want to kill me, kill me.”
This statement appeared to trigger a split within the group.
After leaving the bedroom, the gang reportedly stepped outside the house and engaged in a heated argument for over 30 minutes. According to what our source overheard, some members of the group insisted on returning to “complete the mission,” arguing that the operation had not achieved its intended purpose. Others countered, saying:
• “This is not what we were sent to do.”
• “Leave the man — he is innocent and not even stubborn.”
This internal disagreement ultimately led to the attackers fleeing the scene.
One of the most troubling aspects of the incident is the location of the attack. Obama’s residence is situated:
• Right behind the Area Command, Gwagwalada, and
• Within close proximity to the Police Division
Despite this, the operation reportedly lasted nearly an hour, with the assailants arguing loudly outside the house for over 30 minutes — yet no intervention from security operatives.
At the time of filing this report, all attempts by Chronicles Reporters to reach the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), spokespersons, or Area Command officials for clarification were unsuccessful. No official statement has been issued.
This incident raises serious concerns about:
• The operational capacity of security agencies within Gwagwalada
• Possible insider knowledge or targeted surveillance
• The boldness and coordination of armed groups operating in the area
• The safety of political figures and high-profile residents
Chronicles Reporters investigative desk is currently tracking leads to uncover:
• Whether the attempt was politically motivated
• If the attackers were hired or part of a known criminal network
• Why security agents failed to respond despite the proximity
More updates to follow as our investigation deepens.
For now, Gwagwalada wakes up to yet another reminder of the increasing boldness of armed attackers — even in the shadow of the police command.
