The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has sharply criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke, accusing him of abandoning core governance responsibilities while the state’s judiciary has remained under lock and key for more than two months.
In a statement issued by the party’s chairman, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, the APC expressed frustration over what it described as the governor’s “persistent missteps, incompetence, and misgovernance” since assuming office in 2022.
The party faulted Adeleke’s recent trip to Texas in the United States — reportedly for a relative’s birthday celebration — at a time when neighbouring Kwara State is battling increasing banditry and terrorist incursions. Kwara shares a border with Osun.
According to the APC, Adeleke has travelled to the U.S. at least six times this year, allegedly at public expense, despite Osun’s mounting economic, education, and healthcare challenges.
The party contrasted Adeleke’s conduct with President Bola Tinubu’s recent decision to cancel a scheduled visit to South Africa over escalating nationwide security concerns, insisting that the Osun governor’s priorities reflect “carefree, absentee leadership.”
The APC further criticised Adeleke for failing to address the ongoing strike by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), which has crippled court activities in the state for more than two months. The union is protesting delayed promotions and unresolved welfare issues.
“Since his inauguration in November 2022, Governor Adeleke has shown either a lack of preparedness for effective governance or a fundamental inability to manage a complex state like Osun,” the statement read.
The party argued that Adeleke appears more attracted to the glamour of office than the responsibilities attached to it, insisting that his frequent foreign travels demonstrate misplaced priorities.
“It is difficult to explain why Governor Adeleke would attend a birthday party in Texas while Osun faces security threats,” the statement continued. “This year alone, he has embarked on at least six personal trips to the U.S. using state resources — funds that could have addressed the critical challenges affecting education, health, and the economy.”
The party lamented that while all state courts remain shut, the governor has made no visible effort to intervene, leaving roughly five million residents without access to justice.
Calling on residents to remain patient ahead of the 2026 governorship election, the APC urged the people to safeguard their security, claiming the present administration “does not care about them.”
The party maintained that Osun would have a chance to “kick out the bumbling governor” through the ballot next August, insisting that the state deserves leadership that is attentive and accountable.
