In a dramatic midnight operation, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) raided Proxy Nightclub, located at 7 Akin Adesola Street, Victoria Island, Lagos, in the early hours of Sunday, October 26, following credible intelligence about an alleged drug party taking place inside the upscale club.
According to a statement issued by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi on Sunday, the raid was carried out after undercover operatives infiltrated the club around 11 p.m. on Saturday, October 25. Acting on intelligence and following the agency’s Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), the operation was launched at about 3 a.m., leading to the arrest of over 100 individuals, including the club owner Mike Eze Nwalie Nwogu, popularly known as Pretty Mike.
Recovered from the scene were cartons of illicit substances, including Loud (a potent variant of cannabis) and Nitrous Oxide (commonly known as laughing gas), found both on the suspects and within the club’s storage area.
All arrested individuals, including Pretty Mike, have reportedly been taken into NDLEA custody for screening and further investigation.
The agency emphasized that the crackdown was part of its renewed offensive against the use of narcotics in entertainment circles and party scenes across Lagos.
As of press time, NDLEA officials have yet to confirm if charges will be filed against the suspects pending the outcome of the ongoing screening.
