The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) has condemned what it described as a gross misuse of public office by the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, following his recent trip to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, for the 2025 Asia Pacific Cities Summit and Mayor’s Forum.
In a strongly worded statement signed by its FCT Chairman, Agena Robert Ande, the party accused Wike of turning public office into a personal enterprise after allegedly including his two sons, Jordan and Joaquin Wike, as part of his official delegation to the summit.
The AAC described the act as an outrageous display of arrogance and impunity, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately relieve the minister of his duties to “restore sanity, accountability, and integrity in the administration of the FCT.”
“We call on President Tinubu to sack Minister Wike immediately, putting an end to his lavish and arrogant style of leadership,” the statement read.
“Public funds should not be used for personal gain — especially not to sponsor family members on official trips. This is unacceptable and undermines the trust of the Nigerian people.”
The AAC further lamented the deplorable condition of infrastructure and social services across the FCT, accusing the minister of prioritising luxury over leadership.
“Here in the FCT, there are schools still taking lessons under trees, hospitals without drugs or equipment, and families rendered homeless by the same Wike-led administration without any form of support,” the party said.
“Yet, the minister finds it convenient to squander public funds for personal and family comfort. This is the height of irresponsibility that must stop.”
The party demanded greater transparency and accountability from the FCT Administration, urging citizens to resist any form of leadership that treats public office as a private estate.
“The FCT deserves better,” the statement concluded. “Leadership must be about service, not self-interest. Nigerians can no longer tolerate this reckless culture of impunity.”
