President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday assured Nigerians that the nation’s economy has “bounced back” and is steadily moving toward recovery, despite the biting inflation, widespread hunger, and economic hardship confronting citizens under his administration.
Tinubu gave this assurance while speaking at the coronation of the new Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasheed Ladoja, held in Oyo State. The event drew dignitaries, government officials, and traditional rulers who came to witness the historic occasion.
Addressing the gathering, the President said Nigeria had overcome the threat of total economic collapse and was now on the path of growth. He emphasized that though the process has been painful, it is beginning to yield positive results.
“To many of you here today, I am honoured to bring you good news. Our economy has turned the corner, and there is a bright light at the end of the tunnel,” Tinubu stated.
The President likened the hardship Nigerians are currently facing to the difficult experience of undergoing surgery, insisting that the sacrifices being made will eventually lead to national prosperity.
“Your suffering is like the pain of a difficult surgery, but it is paving the way for recovery and growth. Ahead of us lies prosperity. I thank you for your patience, I thank you for your resilience,” he said.
Meanwhile, the newly crowned 44th Olubadan, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, seized the opportunity to call on Tinubu to ensure the creation of Ibadan State before the end of his tenure in 2027.
Delivering his remarks in Yoruba shortly after receiving his staff of office, Oba Ladoja said, “My people sent me with a message for you, Mr President. They said the creation of Ibadan State is their priority.”
Also speaking at the event, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, described Oba Ladoja’s emergence as the 44th Olubadan as a moment of pride for the ancient city. He said the coronation reflected the cultural heritage and unity of the Ibadan people.
“It is a great honour to be part of this historic celebration, the coronation and presentation of the Staff of Office to His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adewolu Ladoja, as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. The excitement across Ibadan today reminds us of the importance of preserving and honouring our traditions,” Makinde said.
