The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared a 38-year-old man, Abdusalam Abdussamad Akolawole, wanted for his alleged involvement in conspiracy and obtaining money under false pretence.

In a statement issued by Dele Oyewale, Head of Media and Publicity of the commission, Akolawole, who hails from Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, was said to have last resided at River Park Estate, Cluster 1, Babatunde Folawiyo Plot 101, Lugbe, Abuja.

The commission urged members of the public with credible information about his location to reach out to any of its zonal offices nationwide. These include Ibadan, Uyo, Sokoto, Maiduguri, Benin, Makurdi, Kaduna, Ilorin, Enugu, Kano, Lagos, Gombe, Port Harcourt, or its headquarters in Abuja.

This development comes shortly after SaharaReporters revealed that the EFCC had also declared a former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Abia State, Christopher Enweremadu, wanted for alleged financial crimes.

In another public notice signed by Oyewale, the anti-graft agency said Enweremadu was being sought in connection with alleged criminal conspiracy, diversion of public funds, stealing, and money laundering.

The commission described him as a 58-year-old indigene of Abia State, whose last known address was at the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Umuahia, the state capital. It equally appealed to Nigerians to provide any useful information on his whereabouts through any of its offices across the country.

The move follows an earlier ruling by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Apo, which in December 2024 ordered a probe into the management of funds allocated to the 17 Local Government Areas of Abia State between 2019 and 2023.

Justice Bello Kawu, who delivered the ruling, directed the EFCC to either submit a certified true copy of its investigative report or provide a comprehensive status update on the utilisation of the allocations within the specified period.

The court also directed the seizure of the international passports of three former senior Abia government officials. Those affected include former Commissioner Christopher Enweremadu, a former aide to the immediate past governor, Erondu Uchenna Erondu, and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Deaconess Joy Nwanju.
