Fresh unrest erupted on Sunday evening in Katse community, located under Paikon Kore in Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), following a clash between farmers and herders.
Residents confirmed that although no lives were lost in the incident, several individuals sustained severe injuries during the confrontation.
The crisis reportedly stemmed from disputes over grazing routes and the destruction of farmland. What began as a disagreement soon turned into a violent confrontation, throwing the once-peaceful community into chaos.
“This is exactly what happened recently in Gurfata. Many people were injured even though no one died. The herders keep invading farms, the farmers resist, and it always ends in violence,” a community resident explained.
Back in July, Chronicles Reporters detailed how two people were killed during a similar clash between farmers and suspected herders in the same Gwagwalada Area Council.
The victims were identified as Dahiru Yakubu and Musa Yaestu, who served as commander of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) in Gurfata.
Sources disclosed that the earlier incident was triggered after cows strayed into a farm and destroyed crops, sparking a confrontation between farmers and a young herder.
“What happened was that the farmers were in their fields when cows entered and began feeding on their crops. Immediately, they descended on the Fulani herder boy, beating him until his head was broken,” one source narrated.
According to reports, the boy’s younger brother ran home to alert their elder sibling. On arrival, the elder brother overpowered one of the farmers and hacked him to death.
The confrontation soon turned deadly, claiming a second victim, Yaestu, the vigilante leader, during the violent clash.
