Authorities in Ekiti State have taken four individuals into custody following the mysterious disappearance of a newborn baby just hours after birth at the Okeyimi Health Centre located in Ado-Ekiti.

Spokesperson for the Ekiti State Police Command, Sunday Abutu, confirmed the incident on Monday. According to him, the baby was delivered around 8 p.m. on Sunday but was allegedly taken by unknown persons shortly after the delivery.

He disclosed that medical staff who were on duty at the time, security personnel attached to the facility, as well as other individuals, are currently being interrogated as part of the ongoing probe.

Abutu further stated that the State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take charge of the case. He assured that the matter will be thoroughly investigated and all necessary steps will be taken to ensure the safe recovery of the child.

In a related development, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the nurse on duty discovered the baby was no longer in the ward when she came to check on both the mother and child on Monday morning.

Attempts made by journalists to obtain comments from the hospital’s management proved unsuccessful as no official was available to speak as of the time of filing this report.
