Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have stormed the Green Legacy Hotel, situated within the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) in Abeokuta, Ogun State, arresting several suspected internet fraudsters.

The raid occurred in the early hours of Sunday while a pool party was underway at the facility. This operation came less than a week after the commission’s Ibadan Zonal Directorate apprehended a suspected internet scammer in possession of two locally-made pistols during a similar raid at K-Hotel in Itori, Ewekoro Local Government Area of the state. The EFCC disclosed that the suspect was among 55 individuals nabbed during the Wednesday operation.

Footage from Sunday’s incident, which has been widely circulated online, shows young partygoers fleeing in panic as gunshots echoed in the background. Reports indicate that operatives confiscated more than 20 luxury vehicles and other valuable items during the raid. Sources quoted by The PUNCH revealed that the operation was carried out by EFCC operatives from the Lagos Directorate.

An X user identified as A. Ayomide recounted his near encounter with the raid. “I left my house past midnight for OOPL. When we arrived, the crowd was overwhelming, and neither I nor my friend liked the atmosphere, so we stayed in the car park. We left around 1:30 a.m., and just 20 minutes after getting home, I started receiving calls that EFCC was raiding the place,” he wrote.

Confirming the incident, Vitalis Ortese, Managing Director of OOPL Ventures, told The PUNCH: “Yes, they did. There was an incident this morning. We will find out exactly what happened and inform you.”

Efforts by Chronicles Reporters to obtain comments from EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale were unsuccessful, as he neither answered calls nor replied to messages at the time of filing this report.
