Public outrage has erupted online following the circulation of a disturbing video showing security guards at the University of the Niger, Iyienu, Ogidi, Anambra State, violently ejecting a female student from the school premises. The incident, which was reportedly connected to the leak of her private nude photos by a male colleague, has triggered widespread condemnation.
The video, which went viral on X (formerly known as Twitter), was posted by an activist identified simply as Chuks. It captures the horrifying moment several security operatives forcefully dragged and flogged the visibly distressed student as she resisted their aggression. The footage showed the young woman being manhandled, pushed, and thrown to the ground like a criminal, as she was expelled from her hostel.
Chuks, who shared the clip, wrote: “A female student of the University of the Niger, Iyienu, Anambra State, was physically assaulted and disgraced by school security personnel while being thrown out of the premises. This occurred after she was suspended by school authorities because her ex-boyfriend, whom she refused to give in to during an attempt to blackmail her, leaked her nude photographs and was reported to the school.”
Sources familiar with the situation claim the incident occurred on July 18, 2025. According to online posts, the victim had been targeted by a fellow student who allegedly used her nude photos to blackmail her emotionally and financially. Despite enduring the exploitation, the male student eventually leaked the content to his peers, and the material quickly circulated across campus.
A user on X provided further details, stating: “This shameful act happened at the University of the Niger, Iyienu. The girl in the video, named Alaka, had her nudes leaked by a male student who had been blackmailing her. After everything, he still shared the images with others, which led to mass circulation among students.”
The user continued, “After reporting the matter to school authorities, rather than taking action against the boy, the institution suspended her for one year. Distraught and emotionally broken, she asked to leave the campus the next day for reasons not made public.”
Instead of receiving support or protection, the student was allegedly treated with hostility by the school’s security personnel. Reports say that rather than being granted a peaceful departure, she was subjected to further trauma at the hands of those meant to ensure her safety.
“Instead of being shown empathy, she was brutalised. Security men dragged her like a criminal, beat her up, slammed her on the ground, and kicked her out of school property without any regard for her mental or physical well-being. It was an act of cruelty and a failure of justice,” the user lamented.
Efforts by Chronicles Reporters to obtain a comment from the university’s management proved unsuccessful. Calls placed to the institution’s official contact numbers, as listed on its website, went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
As of the time of publication, the University of the Niger had not issued any official response to the incident, leaving many wondering about the fate of both the victim and the alleged perpetrator.
