The Elegant Nurses Forum has raised alarm over reports of persistent abuse and intimidation of students at the College of Nursing Science, Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital (EKSUTH), calling on the Ekiti State Government to step in and take urgent action.
In a statement signed by its representative, Nurse Thomas Abiodun Olamide, the forum voiced strong disapproval of the conduct of the Students Affairs Officer, Mrs. Adaramola Bukola Ayodele. Students have accused Mrs. Adaramola of subjecting them to verbal abuse, mistreatment, and denial of their basic rights as learners.
The forum emphasized that it is a fundamental expectation for all students to be treated with respect and dignity, adding that the institution’s leadership bears the responsibility of ensuring a healthy and secure academic atmosphere for everyone.
They further urged the state authorities to promptly investigate the allegations, noting that such alleged misconduct could severely affect students’ mental well-being and academic progress if left unaddressed.
According to testimonies from affected students, Mrs. Adaramola allegedly has a pattern of cursing at students and making groundless accusations—especially targeting female students whom she reportedly accuses of engaging in inappropriate relationships with male colleagues. The forum dismissed these claims as unsubstantiated and psychologically damaging.
In addition, it was alleged that some students were disqualified from writing their examinations solely because of their involvement in Student Union Government (SUG) activities or for not aligning with the officer’s preferred candidates—actions the forum described as unjust and deeply troubling.
Raising more red flags, the forum expressed concern about the mental and emotional stability of Mrs. Adaramola, suggesting that personal issues, including marital stress, may be influencing her behavior towards students. In light of these concerns, the forum called for her resignation for the sake of the institution’s credibility and the students’ welfare.
The statement partly read, “The Elegant Nurses Forum is extremely worried about the situation at the College of Nursing Science, Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital. There are serious allegations against the Students Affairs Officer, Mrs. Adaramola Bukola Ayodele, who has been reportedly mistreating students, using abusive language, and suppressing their rights.
“We strongly denounce such actions and urge the Ekiti State Government to take immediate steps to resolve these disturbing issues. Every student deserves an environment where they feel valued and protected, and it is the duty of school officials to provide that.”
The forum continued, “We appeal to the state government to investigate these issues thoroughly. If the complaints are verified, steps must be taken to prevent recurrence. Students should be allowed to concentrate on their education without fear of harassment or victimization.
“Many students have stated that Mrs. Adaramola frequently hurls insults at them and unfairly targets female students by accusing them of improper conduct with male peers. Forming friendships should not be mistaken for misconduct, and to date, no evidence has surfaced to support these allegations. Rather than playing a nurturing role, she has become a source of distress for the students.”
They added, “There are also troubling reports that some students were denied access to their examinations because they participated in SUG matters or refused to back Mrs. Adaramola’s favored candidates. This is a gross misuse of power and simply unacceptable.”
The forum also pointed out that concerns over her emotional fitness are growing, as there are suggestions that unresolved personal problems may be affecting her professional judgment. “For the benefit of the students and the institution at large, we believe she should step down, allowing for fresh leadership that can foster growth, empathy, and academic excellence.”
Concluding, the Elegant Nurses Forum reaffirmed its support for the students who have allegedly suffered under the current leadership. “We advocate for fairness, compassion, and mutual respect within our academic institutions. We will continue to stand by those who courageously speak out against injustice,” the statement concluded.
