The Nigeria Police Force has directed 151 senior officers to appear before its Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC) for hearings related to allegations of misconduct and violations of professional ethics.
The sessions, which kicked off on Monday, July 14, 2025, are scheduled to continue until Friday, July 25, at the IGP Smart Conference Hall within the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
The FDC is tasked with investigating and ruling on cases involving officers from the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and above. These cases typically involve accusations of misconduct, ethical breaches, or other forms of professional indiscipline.
The officers invited to face the panel come from various commands and units across the country.
In a statement released on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the proceedings are being held in accordance with established police rules and internal disciplinary protocols.
Following its review, the committee will forward its recommendations to the Police Service Commission, which holds the authority to take final action.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, reiterated the administration’s firm stance against misconduct, underlining the importance of discipline and ethical standards within the force.
“IGP Egbetokun stressed that the Nigeria Police Force would not tolerate any form of indiscipline or unethical conduct from its personnel,” the statement read.
It continued: “The disciplinary measures are part of a broader effort to ensure the Police Force remains committed to integrity, professionalism, and maintaining public confidence.”
The committee’s work, according to the statement, is essential in building a responsible and law-abiding police institution where accountability is embraced and the rule of law is internalised.
Meanwhile, in a related matter reported by Chronicles Reporters in May, the Inspector-General of Police had filed a 14-count criminal charge against some retired high-ranking officers of the force.
Among those charged were former Assistant Inspector-General Idowu Owohunwa, and ex-Commissioners of Police Benneth Igweh and Ukachi Peter Opara.
Also named in the suit, filed at the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja (Suit No. CR/353/25), were retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Obo Ukam Obo and retired Assistant Commissioner of Police Simon Lough, SAN.
According to court records, several others allegedly involved in the matter remain at large.
The charges stem from accusations that the retired officers falsified their ages and forged official documents during their service.
It is alleged that they altered police records using forged documents, including Signal No. DTO 221535/05/89, which was supposedly sent from NIGPOL Admin Lagos to the Commandant of the Police Academy in Kaduna.
The police authorities claim that these fraudulent documents were used to manipulate personal records, resulting in criminal charges for conspiracy, forgery, and tampering with official records.
