A tragic incident occurred on Thursday afternoon when an unidentified woman reportedly jumped off the Third Mainland Bridge into the waters near the University of Lagos (UNILAG) waterfront in Lagos State. Despite swift rescue efforts by marine police officers stationed in the area, she did not survive.

According to the Lagos State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, the marine police responded promptly to the emergency. However, medical personnel at the University of Lagos later confirmed the woman’s death upon her arrival at their facility.

Hundeyin further stated that the deceased’s body has been moved to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Mortuary in Yaba for preservation.

“Today, March 13, 2025, at about 1600 hours, an unidentified woman reportedly jumped from the Third Mainland Bridge into the water near the UNILAG waterfront at approximately 1500 hours,” he confirmed.

He explained that marine police officers stationed in the area recovered her body at the University of Lagos shore slipway. “Despite their efforts, she was confirmed dead by a team of UNILAG medical doctors in the presence of officers from the Sabo Police Division,” he added.

Authorities have not yet released further details about the deceased’s identity or possible reasons for the incident.
