The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has dedicated the administrative block of its Academy in Karu, Abuja, to the memory of Assistant Superintendent, ASE 1 Aminu Sahabi Salisu, who tragically lost his life in Anambra State.

The EFCC expressed its heartfelt condolences over the death of Salisu, who was fatally attacked while performing his duties on January 17, 2025. The suspected assailant, identified as Joshua Chukwubueze Ikechukwu, is believed to be an internet fraudster.

According to Chronicles reporters, the Anambra State Police Command arrested Ikechukwu earlier on the same day after he attacked EFCC operatives and shot Salisu during a raid in Awka, the state capital. Police sources revealed that Ikechukwu was found hiding in the ceiling of a neighbor’s room after committing the crime.

Salisu was later flown to Sokoto State for his burial.

On January 25, 2025, EFCC Chairman, Mr. Ola Olukoyede, announced the decision to honor Salisu at the Commission’s Annual Rewards and Recognition Ceremony in Abuja. Olukoyede emphasized that this tribute was a way to immortalize the slain officer.

“His ultimate sacrifice in the service of our country will never be forgotten,” Olukoyede stated. “Salisu was a brave officer, and to preserve his memory, we are naming the administrative block of the Academy in his honor.”

The ceremony also recognized 36 officers for their outstanding contributions to the Commission. Categories of recognition included the section with the highest recovery, the section with the highest conviction, the lawyer with the highest conviction, best departmental staff, best zonal directorate, and staff of the year.

In his remarks, Olukoyede congratulated the awardees, encouraging them to continue striving for excellence. “Excellence is not about doing things right occasionally, it’s about doing things right consistently. The reward for hard work is more work,” he added.

Chief Superintendent of the EFCC, CSE Alvan Gurumnaan, was named Staff Member of the Year, while the Sokoto Zonal Directorate was honored as the Best Directorate of the Year. Other awardees included Bitrus Yakubu, Katmi Kefas, Halilu Dauda, Nenman Danladi, Oluwakemi Aaron, Yusuf Umar, Michael Adukwu Uchechika, and David Solomon, among others.
