
The Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF), led by its Chairman, Governor AbdulRahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, held a meeting late into the night, beginning around 9:30 p.m. and ongoing as of press time. The agenda focused on key national issues, including food insecurity, challenges within the oil sector, and the matter of local government autonomy.
One of the main items was a briefing by the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, who provided updates on recent developments affecting the oil sector.
The governors also discussed legal challenges impacting the NGF, particularly concerning the autonomy of local governments. Additionally, they were briefed on security matters by the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Adeola Oluwatosin Ajayi, and Lami Chinade from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).
Another significant topic was a proposal to utilize $825 million to strengthen Nigeria’s agricultural sector and improve food security.
