Tensions are high in Enugu as protests have erupted following the alleged murder of a popular local musician, known as Igbo Jah, by a police inspector. The inspector is currently in custody, and the Enugu State Police Command has launched a full investigation, according to police spokesman Daniel Ndukwe.
Reports reveal that the protests have escalated, with hundreds of residents gathering near the anti-cult headquarters in an attempt to set the building ablaze. Law enforcement officers on the scene managed to prevent the attack, but protesters have taken to blocking major roads in the state capital, including the Onu Asata area, where theyâve set tires on fire and are chanting in anger.
In response, police have been firing tear gas to disperse the crowd, as the protestorsâ demands for justice grow louder. The burning tires and smoke symbolize the collective frustration of the demonstrators, drawing public attention from all around.
Currently, the situation remains tense, as residents call for accountability and justice for the late musician, Igbo Jah.
