The Nigeria Police Force has released five individuals arrested for their involvement in the #FearlessInOctober protests in Jos, the capital of Plateau State.
Their attorney, Mr. Ntyang Jugu, confirmed the news to SaharaReporters on Tuesday evening. Earlier reports highlighted that the protesters—Yakubu Idris, Umar Faruq Dandina, Nura Abubakar, Khalid Sulaiman, and Umar Faruk—were taken into custody while exercising their fundamental rights in Jos.
Jugu stated, “I received a call from an officer informing me to return, as they would be released unconditionally. When I arrived, they had already been processed and released without conditions.”
In a prior interview, Khalid Shuaibu, the Officer in Charge of General Investigation for the state police command, mentioned that the protesters were arrested for not providing prior notice to the police regarding their public demonstration.
