Malam Usman Maigadi, a guard at the Emir of Yauri’s Orchard Farm, was tragically killed by a hippopotamus, according to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria.

It is believed the hippo perceived Maigadi as a threat to its calf, prompting a defensive attack. The incident occurred on Sunday while the 60-year-old was fishing in the Yauri River at Tillo Village within the Yauri Local Government Area.

Following the attack, Maigadi was laid to rest in accordance with Islamic customs, as confirmed by the Chairman of Yauri Local Government Council, Alhaji Abubakar Shu’aibu.

Kebbi Governor Nasir Idris expressed his condolences in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Ahmed Idris. The governor encouraged the Emirate and Maigadi’s family to find solace in their faith during this difficult time.

He also offered prayers for the deceased, asking Allah to forgive his sins and grant him a place in Jannatul Firdaus.
