A group of terrorists carried out an attack on Friday in the Munya Local Government Area of Niger State, resulting in the tragic deaths of eight individuals, including four vigilantes. Aminu Najume, the Chairman of the council, confirmed this, also disclosing that over 160 people were abducted in the Kuchi ward. Among the victims were women and children, leading to the abandonment of the affected community.
Najume reported that the attackers, armed with sophisticated weapons, arrived with 150 motorcycles. Despite distress calls, security forces allegedly did not intervene. The terrorists operated for over five hours without opposition. Najume emphasized the severity of the situation, identifying ISWAP and Boko Haram members among the assailants.
The incident has been brought to the attention of the state government, with assurances of action. However, when contacted, the state police command’s spokesperson, Wasiu Abiodun, neither confirmed nor denied the attack but promised to follow up.
This comes after a previous report by SaharaReporters in 2023 detailed a similar attack, where a seven-month-old baby boy named Habibu was found unharmed on his deceased mother’s back. The assailants had blocked the Pandogari-Allawa Road, resulting in casualties, including a student and the mother of the infant.
