A private security guard working at the University of Ilorin, Idris Ibrahim Kayode, has been arrested for allegedly vandalizing armoured cables used to power streetlights within the university’s community.

The suspect was reportedly caught in the act around 1:30 am by vigilant members of a local security group. They promptly handed him over to the Kwara State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC).

In a statement issued over the weekend, the spokesperson for the NSCDC, Ayoola Michael, confirmed the arrest. He stated that the Commandant, Dr. Umar Muhammed, had ordered a thorough investigation into the incident.

Michael emphasized that the NSCDC’s actions were in line with its mandate to safeguard critical national assets and infrastructure, underscoring the importance of protecting public utilities.
