The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has suspended the Secretary to the Kano State Government, Abdullahi Bichi, along with the Commissioner for Transport, Muhammed Diggo, citing alleged abuse of power.
The suspension was announced on Monday night.
Hashimu Dungurawa, the NNPP chairman in Kano State, confirmed the suspension, stating that it followed multiple petitions submitted by party leaders from Bichi North, the home constituency of both officials.
“We officially announce today the suspension of SSG Abdullahi Baffa Bichi and Commissioner for Transportation, Muhammad Diggo, over allegations of power abuse, misuse of office, and disloyalty to the party,” Dungurawa revealed.
Dungurawa commended the efforts of the party’s local leadership for raising the issue, saying their documented petitions helped speed up the investigation and final decision.
Speaking to Channels TV, Sanusi Bature, Director-General of Information, explained that the suspended officials had allegedly undermined the party’s leadership and structure. With the local leadership formally lodging complaints, the suspension “became inevitable.”
This suspension comes despite Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf’s reported efforts to mediate between the party and the suspended members in a bid to resolve internal conflicts.
