The Nigerian national football team, known as the Super Eagles, is currently stuck at an airport in Libya after authorities diverted their flight.

According to reports from SaharaReporters, the team was supposed to fly to Benghazi for their upcoming African Cup of Nations qualifying match against the Libyan team. However, their flight was redirected, leaving players and coaching staff in limbo.

In a twist, the team will now need to make a road trip to Benghazi, which is approximately a three-hour and 24-minute drive, as noted by a popular Nigerian football platform that shared updates and images of the situation on Facebook.

This disruption may be linked to a prior incident involving the Libyan team during their recent visit to Nigeria. Last Tuesday, the Libyan players reportedly endured an unpleasant reception, with delays at the Lagos airport extending over three hours.

Images circulated by Libyan media depicted the team sitting on the floor of the Lagos airport after a lengthy flight that began in Tripoli. They had traveled to Lagos before proceeding to Uyo for their match against Nigeria in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Reports suggest that the Nigerian Football Federation did not arrange for a bus to meet the Libyan team, resulting in their prolonged wait. Eventually, three buses were made available, but the journey to Uyo was complicated, taking the team through challenging forested routes over a distance of more than 200 kilometers. Despite flying on a private jet, the Libyan squad found themselves landing in Lagos instead of their intended destination.
