The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has announced the recovery of N13 billion in misappropriated public funds during September 2024. This significant achievement was highlighted by Chairman Dr. Musa Aliyu (SAN) at the launch of the ICPC Strategic Action Plan for 2024-2028 in Abuja on Wednesday.
Aliyu praised this recovery as a remarkable accomplishment, underscoring the commission’s commitment to tackling corruption and fostering accountability in Nigeria. “The ICPC has made considerable strides in fulfilling its mandate. For instance, we recovered over N13 billion in misallocated public funds just last month,” he stated.
The chairman also shared that the ICPC is implementing ICT reforms aimed at digitizing its operations to enhance investigations, case management, and overall internal processes. “This transformation positions the commission at the forefront of using technology to fight corruption, allowing us to effectively combat criminal activities in the digital age,” he explained.
Additionally, Aliyu mentioned that the commission is working on a specialized curriculum to strengthen the enforcement skills of its personnel.
On September 20, 2024, the ICPC had reported recovering nearly N4 billion in public funds within just 24 hours, from September 18 to 19. This recovery involved funds that had been illegally transferred into private accounts and was announced during a National Anti-Corruption Coalition (NACC) Members Interactive Forum in Abuja.
