On Tuesday, youths and residents in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, joined the ongoing #FearlessInOctober protests, aimed at combating hunger and poor governance. The demonstrators took to the streets, brandishing placards that reflected their frustration with the nation’s economic difficulties.

Protesters specifically called on President Bola Tinubu to reinstate the fuel subsidy to alleviate the rising cost of living, particularly the steep increase in food prices. They marched from Nelson Mandela Freedom Park, moving through significant areas of the city, including Oke-Fia and Dada Estate, while chanting solidarity songs to amplify their message. Security personnel were present to ensure the demonstration remained peaceful.

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore, who leads the #RevolutionNow Movement, had earlier invited Nigerians nationwide to participate in protests on October 1st, highlighting the issues of hardship, hunger, unemployment, and insecurity under the current administration. In a post shared on Monday evening, Sowore expressed his commitment to join fellow citizens on the streets, refusing to remain silent in the face of widespread suffering.

He emphasized that protests are a vital means for people to express their discontent with government policies that harm the populace, asserting that this right is inherent to all individuals. Sowore reminded the public of his own struggles, having spent five of the last six years in detention under unfounded treason charges brought by the All Progressives Congress-led government, which they ultimately had to withdraw. He vowed to continue fighting until their demands are met.
