On Thursday, PayPal faced a significant service disruption, leaving thousands of users unable to log into their accounts. By midday, more than 6,000 reports of login issues had been recorded on Down Detector. Nearly 90% of these complaints were related to login difficulties, sparking widespread speculation that the platform may have been hacked.
The outage prompted an outpouring of frustration on social media, with users voicing their anger over the prolonged inconvenience. “PayPal is completely down—no one can log in or even get help through their call center,” one user wrote on X.
According to Mail Online, the issues began around 11:00 a.m. GMT when users started reporting problems accessing their accounts. Within an hour, complaints had surged globally, with thousands of users unable to access PayPal either through its website or mobile app.
One frustrated customer shared their experience on X: “I can’t log in to my PayPal account right now. The error message keeps saying, ‘Please check your entries and try again.'” Others speculated about a possible cyberattack. “Has PayPal been hacked? Many of us can’t access our accounts,” one user questioned. Another added, “I thought my account was hacked, but it turns out the whole system is down.”
Some users expressed relief that their accounts remained secure despite the inconvenience. “The outage had me convinced my PayPal was hacked. Now I need a moment to calm my nerves,” one individual wrote.
As of now, there is no evidence to suggest a cyberattack caused the outage. PayPal has yet to release a statement explaining the cause of the disruption.
