Two Russian airstrikes on a hospital in the Ukrainian border city of Sumy on Saturday resulted in the deaths of seven individuals.

Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko reported that the first strike killed one person and caused significant damage to multiple floors of the hospital. Following this attack, patients and staff began to evacuate the facility. Sumy is located just across the border from Russia’s Kursk region, where Ukraine had launched a surprise offensive early last month.

“During the evacuation of patients, the enemy struck again,” Klymenko noted. Local authorities later confirmed that the death toll had risen to seven, with an additional 12 people reported as “seriously wounded.”

Ukraine’s National Police condemned the strikes as a “cynical attack,” noting that one police officer was killed and another was injured. Prosecutors indicated that both airstrikes were conducted using drones, targeting the hospital and a nearby residential area.
