The Nigerian government has declared Tuesday, October 1, 2024, as a public holiday to celebrate the nation’s 64th Independence Day.
This announcement was made on Saturday by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement from the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani.
In his message, Tunji-Ojo extended congratulations to Nigerians both at home and abroad, commending the dedication and resilience of the nation’s citizens. He emphasized that their sacrifices are essential for the country’s progress.
The minister urged all Nigerians to reflect on the contributions of past heroes, drawing inspiration for the challenges ahead. He underscored that achieving the Nigeria of our dreams requires unity among its people.
As the nation prepares for Independence Day, Tunji-Ojo encouraged citizens to remain committed to nation-building efforts. However, it is worth noting that Nigerians have planned a nationwide mass action, dubbed #FearlessInOctober, to protest against the government of President Bola Tinubu due to concerns over anti-poor policies and rising hardship in the country.
