In light of recent rumors regarding potential abduction attempts, the University of Abuja has heightened its security measures across the campus.

Acting Vice-Chancellor Aisha Sani Maikudi addressed the situation in a statement on Friday, labeling the circulating reports on social media as “baseless.” In an effort to enhance campus safety, the university is collaborating with the Nigerian military and other security agencies.

Maikudi reassured both staff and students that these security enhancements are part of standard procedures. “I have become aware of various rumors concerning security issues at our campus. While these claims are unfounded, we take any security concern very seriously,” she stated.

She urged the university community to remain calm and proceed with their daily routines without fear. “I encourage everyone to stay composed and continue with their usual activities,” Maikudi added.

The vice-chancellor also reminded university members to be vigilant and mindful of their surroundings. “It is important that we all remain alert and security-conscious, as this has become essential for our community. Your safety is our top priority, and we must be attentive without succumbing to panic,” she emphasized.

In the coming days, the university community might notice an increased presence of security personnel and vehicles. “You may see additional security staff and vehicles around campus shortly. This is part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen our overall security framework,” she explained.

Maikudi highlighted that these operations involve not only the military but also other security organizations to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone on campus. “These activities are carried out periodically to support our commitment to security,” she noted.

In closing, the acting Vice-Chancellor expressed her gratitude for the community’s cooperation. “We sincerely appreciate your understanding and collaboration in fostering a safe and secure educational environment for all,” she concluded.
