A major Nigerian Army artillery training base, the Nagwamase Military Cantonment in Kontagora, Niger State, has reportedly been overtaken by terrorists, displacing about 23 local communities and raising serious security concerns.

The once-secure cantonment has now become a stronghold for at least eight terrorist camps, heightening fears among the neighboring villages. Honorable Abdullahi Isah of Kontagora II addressed the Niger State House of Assembly during Tuesday’s plenary, bringing attention to the escalating attacks and the capture of some residents.

Hon. Isah noted that the bandits’ presence has led to persistent attacks on the communities surrounding the camp. He revealed that the military training ground, which stretches across both Kontagora and parts of Mariga local government areas, has been overrun by terrorist groups that have established multiple camps in the region.

The lawmaker expressed deep concern, stating that the situation poses a severe security threat to all nearby communities. In response, the Niger State House of Assembly called on the government to collaborate closely with military authorities to expel the armed groups and restore peace. The legislators stressed the urgent need for increased military support to secure the area and protect its residents.
