The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has officially suspended Pastor Ayorinde AdeBello and Deacon Oke Mayowa following allegations of homosexuality involving young church members.
An internal memo, dated October 28, 2024, with Ref: RCCG/NO/s.04/13/vol.1, disclosed the suspension. Addressed to the Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration, the memo emphasized that the church would not tolerate such practices, given its doctrinal stance against homosexuality. The church has also tasked this official with leading a detailed investigation, which must be concluded within two weeks.
Signed by RCCG National Overseer Pastor Sunday Akande, the memo urged that the investigation should align with the church’s values and be conducted with sensitivity and integrity. “This memo serves to inform you of serious allegations against Pastor Ayorinde Ade Bello and Dcn. Oke Mayowa. In line with our commitment to uphold biblical teachings, these allegations require our utmost seriousness,” the church stated.
The RCCG reiterated its doctrinal opposition to homosexuality, citing Leviticus 18:22 and 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 as foundational beliefs. “Our teachings do not permit or support any act of homosexuality,” the statement read, adding that both individuals under investigation would temporarily relinquish all church duties.
In a separate letter dated October 25, addressed to Pastor AdeBello, the church formally instructed him to comply with the suspension by stepping down from all roles. Signed by Laolu Oroge, Secretary of the RCCG Pastors Seed Family (PSF) Global Council, the letter described the allegations as grave, reminding AdeBello that, if proven, the offenses could constitute a criminal violation of state laws.
The letter read, “This decision follows allegations concerning inappropriate interactions with teenage boys, which fundamentally oppose the values of the RCCG PSF, including holiness, accountability, and protection of the vulnerable.”
RCCG expressed that predatory conduct toward church members is intolerable and assured that an impartial investigation would follow. “If these allegations are substantiated, it will result in your indefinite removal from all church positions. Until then, you are to refrain from all duties and privileges, including those related to the PSF.”
The church further urged AdeBello to cooperate fully with the investigation, stressing that he avoid actions that could interfere with its integrity. “Remember Acts 24:16: ‘And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men.’ We are committed to uncovering the truth and will take necessary actions in line with our mission,” the church stated.
RCCG concluded by emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations and urged prompt compliance from AdeBello. It also advised him to reach out to church authorities if he required clarification about his suspension.
