Iran has raised the death toll following Israel’s recent airstrikes, confirming that four of its soldiers were killed in the operation.
Earlier, Iranian authorities reported that their air defenses had responded effectively to the assault, initially claiming to have countered the attack. However, the latest report from Iran confirms the loss of four soldiers, though further details remain undisclosed.
Iran’s National Air Defence Headquarters had previously stated that the airstrikes targeted military installations in Tehran, Khuzestan, and Ilam provinces. They described the event as a “tracked and countered” aggressive action that caused minimal damage. “The integrated air defense system successfully tracked and countered this aggressive action, though limited damage was caused to some locations, and the dimensions of this incident are currently under investigation,” the statement read.
According to SaharaReporters, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) launched the strike on Saturday, describing it as a retaliatory measure against a missile attack by Tehran earlier in the month. Following the operation, the Israeli military announced it had achieved its objectives and warned Iran against further escalation.
An Iranian news outlet later vowed a “proportional reaction” to the Israeli strikes. Reports from Iranian media indicated several explosions throughout the capital and nearby military areas, beginning shortly after 2 a.m.
By dawn, Israel’s public broadcaster reported that three waves of strikes had been completed, officially ending the operation.
The region has been tense, with Israel anticipated to respond to Iran’s October 1 ballistic missile attack, which involved roughly 200 missiles targeting Israel, leading to the death of one person in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.
Hostilities between Iran and Israel have heightened following the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas, the Palestinian militant group supported by Iran. Hezbollah, a Lebanon-based group also backed by Iran, has joined forces with Hamas, intensifying the situation.
Concerns of a broader regional conflict have risen as Israel’s confrontations with Hezbollah have increased, including recent airstrikes on Beirut and an ongoing ground operation. Meanwhile, Israel continues its long-standing conflict in Gaza.
