The Rivers State Police Command has commenced an investigation into a horrific attack on 20-year-old Queen Orlu, allegedly by Polycarp Uzoma. Uzoma reportedly assaulted the young mother, severely injuring her before abducting and selling her one-year-old baby for N1.4 million.
According to a statement by the spokesperson of the Rivers State Police Command, Superintendent of Police (SP) Grace Iringe-Koko, the tragic event unfolded on August 25, 2024. Around 6:35 a.m., officers from the Ubima Divisional Police Headquarters were alerted by a middle-aged woman who reported finding Queen Orlu unconscious and badly injured in Omeka Farmland, Ucheabuor.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they found Orlu in a pool of blood with multiple injuries, and her intestines exposed through a large cut in her abdomen.
Investigations revealed that Orlu had been lured to a remote path in Ubima by Polycarp Uzoma, originally from Akwa in Ohaji Local Government Area of Imo State but currently residing in Ubima. Uzoma reportedly transported Orlu to the location on a bicycle before attacking her with a stick and other unidentified weapons. After she lost consciousness, he kidnapped her baby boy, Desire Orlu, and left her for dead.
Uzoma then sold the baby to a woman identified as Happiness Amadi for N1.4 million. The illegal transaction was facilitated by Chinyere Ordu, an alleged auxiliary nurse, who received N800,000 as her share of the deal.
All three suspects—Uzoma, Amadi, and Ordu—have been arrested. They confessed to their roles in the crime. The police have also recovered N800,000 and the bicycle used in the crime as evidence.
Thankfully, the one-year-old baby has been rescued, and Queen Orlu is receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.
The police confirmed that all suspects remain in custody and will face charges in court once the investigation is completed.
