During the flag-off ceremony for the construction of an access road from Ring Road 1 to the Judges’ Quarters in Katampe District, Abuja, Speaker Abbas highlighted that Nigeria needs approximately $3 trillion to bridge its infrastructure gap. Represented by his deputy, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, Abbas pointed out the increasing infrastructure demands across the nation. He specifically noted that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is facing intensified challenges due to an annual population growth rate of 5%, which adds significant pressure on existing facilities.

Abbas praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration for placing a strong emphasis on infrastructure development. He reassured attendees that the National Assembly is dedicated to enacting legislation aimed at enhancing governance in the FCT. Additionally, he committed to approving necessary funding to support impactful infrastructure initiatives, including the road construction currently underway.

FCT Minister Barrister Nyesom Wike expressed his appreciation to the National Assembly for its ongoing support of the FCT Administration and its prompt approval of appropriation acts related to the territory. Wike further guaranteed that the access road to the Judges’ Quarters, alongside other internal roads, is expected to be completed by May next year, coinciding with President Tinubu’s second anniversary in office. He also promised that the contractor would receive adequate funding to ensure the timely completion of the project.
