The Plateau State Police Command on Wednesday paraded 23 suspects linked to various crimes, including cybercrime, human trafficking, armed robbery, and illegal possession of firearms. The Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Adesina, revealed this while addressing the press at the Command’s headquarters in Jos.

Adesina noted that the Command had implemented several strategies to curb crime and ensure the safety of lives and property within the state. He highlighted measures such as improving response times, intensifying efforts to arrest suspects, and ensuring criminals face due prosecution.

He recounted one of the recent breakthroughs, stating, “On October 16, 2024, around 7:00 am, the Command’s Eagle Eye Patrol Unit arrested four individuals—Jonathan Arin (27), Moses Festus (27), Sambo Audu (30), and Nehemiah Yakubu (25)—all of Angwan Rukuba, Jos. These suspects were found with locally fabricated firearms and dangerous tools used for creating such weapons. Upon interrogation, they confessed to their crimes, and their statements were recorded under caution.” Adesina added that the investigation is ongoing, with efforts to recover distributed firearms and apprehend additional suspects.

Addressing another case, Adesina explained the arrest of two suspects, Ateh Anthony Idoko and Daniel Idoko, both 23 years old, for criminal conspiracy, fraud, and wrongful confinement. “On October 20, 2024, at 10:30 am, we received a report about internet fraudsters (Yahoo boys) who had trafficked young boys, locked them up, and forced them to engage in romance scams. Those who refused to cooperate were beaten with a horsewhip,” Adesina stated. The police raided the hideout and arrested 11 suspects, including the two ringleaders. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts to capture the fleeing suspects.

Adesina also shared details of a child trafficking case. On October 12, 2024, a report was made at the “A” Division Police Station about four missing children. “The children were last seen with a woman named Comfort, who often visited a neighbor in the compound. Our officers acted swiftly, leading to the rescue of the four children and the arrest of two suspects,” Adesina said. The case is currently under investigation and will be charged to court upon conclusion.

In another development, the police arrested one Destiny Gomwalk on September 11, 2024, while on surveillance patrol near Plateau State University, Bokkos. A locally fabricated revolver pistol was found in his possession. The case is under investigation, and the suspect will be prosecuted soon.

Commissioner Adesina emphasized the importance of community cooperation in maintaining peace and security. “I want to thank the people of Plateau State for their continuous support of the police. Your input is crucial in fighting crime. I urge you to keep working with us for a safer state,” he said.

He also appreciated the media for their role in promoting peace. “Your partnership has been instrumental in maintaining peace. I encourage you to continue providing accurate and timely information to the public,” he concluded.
