Nigerian social media users have taken to X (formerly Twitter) to demand the arrest of a police officer’s wife, who is linked to the assault of a teacher at Rosebud School in Idimu, Lagos State. The incident, involving Ayofe Kolawole, a 44-year-old parent, was captured on video, showing him physically attacking the teacher for disciplining his child.
On Tuesday, Kolawole was arraigned in court by the police. Lagos State Police Spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin confirmed this in a post on X, stating that the arraignment took place earlier that day.
A disturbing video circulating on X depicts Kolawole slapping and punching the teacher after claiming that the educator had beaten his child without prior consent. Following this violent outburst, Kolawole was arrested and brought before the court.
Many users on X who were familiar with the events surrounding the incident have accused Kolawole’s wife, who is a police officer, of using her position to detain the teacher after the assault occurred. In light of this, there are calls for her arrest and prosecution to ensure that justice is served.
One user, @Yemo247, expressed, “Don’t spare the wife for using her position as a Police Officer to oppress the Teacher…” Another user, @Sliimzy12, criticized the police officer’s actions, saying, “The wife too should never wear police uniform again; she’s power drunk.”
Additionally, @oluwatitofolabi questioned, “What about the wife that used her position as a police officer to lock up a teacher in the police cell overnight?? The police must dismiss that woman with immediate effect.” Daniel Amoko added to the discussion by stating, “Not just the man, please. What about the officers involved in this case? They all need to be arrested.”
There were also concerns raised about the police’s role in the matter. User Sirkk highlighted, “What about the wife that is a police officer? She made the teacher who recorded the video sleep in the cell. What of the IPO that ensured the lady slept in the cell? Let there be wholesome justice.”
Horluwadamilare questioned, “That policewoman who abused her position—what happened to her?” Another user, Capitol_HaYWhY, remarked on the broader implications of the incident, saying, “So because his wife is a police officer, he decided to threaten and assault just anyone. Even family members of the police force are doing too much. Oppression day and night. After his arraignment, what’s going to happen? I’ll check back in a week.”
As of now, the police spokesman, Hundeyin, has not publicly addressed the growing calls for action from Nigerian netizens. Attempts to reach him via mobile have been unsuccessful, and he has yet to respond to messages sent to him by SaharaReporters at the time of this report.
