Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has launched an investigation into the sale of “miracle” water and soap by Christ Mercy Land Deliverance Ministries, a church led by Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin. The regulatory body accused the church of misusing NAFDAC’s name to deceive people into purchasing these products.
In a statement released on Sunday, NAFDAC, through its Director General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, emphasized that none of the products being promoted by the church have been officially registered with the agency. “NAFDAC wishes to notify the public about the misleading activities of a religious group, Christ Mercy Land Deliverance Ministries, which is wrongly using the agency’s name to gain credibility for its products,” the statement read.
NAFDAC revealed that they have received several complaints from concerned citizens regarding the sale of the so-called ‘Miracle Water’ and ‘Miracle Soap’ at the church located at Km 5 Effurun, Sapele Road, Delta State. These products, marketed with claims of healing powers, have been sold to members of the public under false pretenses.
Prophet Fufeyin has promoted the use of the ‘Miracle Water’ and ‘Miracle Soap’ on social media, boasting that they can cure infertility and help women conceive twins. According to NAFDAC, he even told his congregation that the soap was registered with the agency, which led to many individuals seeking confirmation from NAFDAC offices.
NAFDAC’s investigation also includes various products submitted for verification by concerned members of the public. These products include ‘Miracle & Healing Water,’ ‘River Jordan Water,’ ‘Miracle Water from The Pool of Bethsaida,’ ‘A New Beginning Mount Carmel Miracle Water,’ ‘Water of Life,’ ‘Miracle Water from The Pool of Bethsaida’ (1L), ‘A New Beginning Pool of Bethsaida Water,’ and ‘Father Smelled Perfume.’
