The National Hospital in Abuja has been accused of refusing to treat patients rescued from a mob and brought in by Nigerian police, allegedly demanding a sum of N200,000 before starting treatment.

According to information gathered by SaharaReporters, the incident occurred around 8 p.m. on October 15.

A police source revealed that hospital staff requested the payment of N200,000 before they would attend to the patients. Despite the police pleading to pay N20,000 upfront, the hospital allegedly rejected the offer. As a result, one of the victims tragically passed away.

“They were about to be lynched, and the police saved them, taking them first to Asokoro General Hospital, which referred them to the National Hospital. But the National Hospital demanded N200,000 before treatment could begin. The police begged them with N20,000, but they still refused,” the source explained.

The police had rescued the victims from Damagaza Primary Health Centre on the evening of October 15. Unfortunately, one of the patients who was turned away later died.

When contacted by SaharaReporters, the National Hospital denied the accusation. A staff member said, “That is not true, we didn’t receive such a case here on that day.”
