Auwal Sankara, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, is scheduled to appear in a Kano court today (Monday) in connection with allegations of adultery. The charges were brought after Sankara was reportedly caught with a married woman in an unfinished building, which led to his arrest by the Kano Hisbah Commission.

This development was confirmed by Mr. Abba Sufi, the Director-General of the Hisbah Commission, during a press briefing on Sunday.

Sankara, however, has strongly refuted the accusations. In a statement released last Thursday, he denied any involvement in the alleged act, claiming that the report of his arrest was a deliberate attempt to tarnish his political image and reputation.

In response to the situation, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has set up a five-member committee to investigate the accusations against the commissioner. The committee, chaired by the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim, includes the Commissioners for Information, Mr. Sagir Musa; Basic Education, Mr. Lawal Danzomo; and Special Adviser on Security Matters, Mr. Usman Muhammed.

This committee has been tasked with delivering its findings within two weeks. The formation of the investigative body was disclosed in a statement signed by Mr. Ibrahim in Dutse on Sunday. According to him, the state government views the matter seriously due to the potential damage it could cause.

Mr. Ibrahim further noted that the media coverage surrounding the incident has resulted in significant embarrassment and has negatively impacted the state’s image. He emphasized the need for the committee to thoroughly investigate the claims.

On Saturday, the Jigawa State government officially suspended Sankara from his position. This move, they said, was intended to ensure a transparent investigation and uphold the state’s integrity throughout the process.
