The Hisbah Board in Kano State has arrested Auwal Danladi Sankara, the Commissioner of Special Duties in Jigawa State, on allegations of adultery. The arrest was confirmed on Friday by Abba Sufi, the Director General of the Hisbah Board. According to Sufi, Sankara was found in an uncompleted building with a married woman, Tasleem Baba Nabegu, who has two children.
Sufi explained that the commissioner was detained after being caught in the building, which reportedly belongs to him. He stated, “We have arrested Auwal Danladi Sankara, the Jigawa Commissioner, with a married woman in an uncompleted building that belongs to him. Unknown to him, we were tracking him based on reports we received.”
The arrest came after Nasiru Bulama, the woman’s husband, lodged a formal complaint. Bulama accused the commissioner of having an affair with his wife and reported the matter to several authorities, including the Kano State Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Hisbah Board, as reported by TheCable.
Sufi also mentioned that Hisbah had been monitoring Sankara for other controversial activities, including operating what they believe are illicit drug centers disguised as hotels. These locations are said to be linked to both drug addiction and prostitution.
Following his detention, Sankara is expected to face charges in court on Monday. The Hisbah Board, responsible for enforcing Sharia law in Kano State, considers adultery a serious offense under Islamic law.
